"After the Lights Go Out: Life on a Traveling Carnival"

Midweek Book Choice

For this week we are reading a book that most all of you will find fascinating,  "After the Lights Go Out: Life on a Traveling Carnival".

Remember when you were just a kid and the carnival was coming to town? Remember the bright, colorful posters in the store windows that offered discounted ride coupons if you bought them in advance? You could hardly wait to ride some of your favorite thrill-rides; the Zipper, the Flying Bobs and the Scrambler? Remember the delicious smells from hotdogs, cotton candy, candy apples and Funnel Cakes, and don't forget about the popcorn!

I can remember thinking about how much fun it must be to travel around the country with a bunch of your buddies, getting to enjoy the rides for free. Even at my young age I already knew that the girls would eat it up; I'd never be without a pretty girl on my arm. Yes, it was going to be a life of glitz and glamour for me!

When I turned sixteen, I knew that when the carnival left town that year that I would be leaving with it. I had enough of the small-town life and knew I was destined for something greater; little did I know that the decision I was going to make would bring me anything but what I envisioned. I found out quick that the carnival became quite the monster....when the lights went out.

Check the book out on Amazon Kindle and other fine online booksellers. Here's a direct link:
