State of the Union ( as we see it)

The State of the Union
(As seen by regular citizens)

Ladies and gentlemen, members of the Congress, all elected officials, and all citizens. Thank you for taking the time to take part in this examination of the state of our country. We have come a long way since we became an independent nation; a democracy where we govern ourselves and abide by the rule of law set by our elected representatives and the Judicial system so that we are all treated equally under the law and allowed to continue to prosper in our businesses, our family lives and move forward as free and decent people.
It does appear though, that we have somehow lost our sense of what it means to be an American in some instances. Americans are known to be compassionate, tolerant and  promoters of democracy all around the world in nations that have too long suffered under the yoke of oppression with no means to defend themselves against tyranny. It is a part of our moral fiber to always defend and come to the aid of the underdogs. We have always supported anyone that promotes freedom and those that yearn to be free to practice whatever religion they choose, those that yearn for the  freedom to speak their mind and have their voices heard. We must do whatever we can to promote peace in all parts of the world, but we must not shy away from doing what needs to be done ,no matter how distasteful. Some situations call for more than mere dialogue and diplomacy. It has been said many times that "you cannot reason with a madman", so what do we do when nothing has solved the problem? I'm sure everyone has their own idea about how we should deal with tyrants and their regimes, but as we are unable to act as individuals, we depend on our government to take the lead. Their duty is to protect us and to do whatever is within their means to defend others throughout the world who cannot defend themselves against aggression and oppression by their own governments or the lack thereof.

Today, we have a crisis on our southern border as some politicians are quick to point out. They are always ready to find someone to blame and they love to get on TV and moan about the situation, but they never offer a solution except to close the border and send those who are fleeing tyranny right back into the jaws of the wolf they are running from.
Agreed, there needs to be a policy in place (an inforceable policy) to assuire that these people have the opportunity to come to our country and make a better life for them and their children without becoming an undue burden on our citizens and our system of welfare. We cannot work on solving the real probleems we are facing because the people we have elected to take care of our business in Washington are too busy with childish bullshit to do what we elected them to do. They don't even know how to behave in a manner befitting their position and they have no sense of honor and patriotism like we have had up until about 2016. They actually consider letting the government shutdown if they can't get their way.....how stupid is that? Some of them seem to love the fact that they can cause workers not to get their checks and that they can actually prevent old people, handicapped people and anyone that depends on government programs for their livelihood from being able to pay their bills and put food on the table and that is just the tip of the iceberg. They have come to love the sense of power that such positions give them. They like seeing their name in the news and they like the celebrity status that all public officials enjoy. Take raising the debt-ceiling for instance. We have always raised the debt ceiling whenever it became necessary to avoid a shutdown of the government and we will continue to do so now and in the future. The greatest nation on earth will not shy from it's responsibility to pay it's debts. Now what about support for Ukraine and Israel? They are our allies and it is our duty to come to their aid when necessary just as we have always done. We learned from World War Two that we cannot isolate ourselves and let the rest of the world take care of their own problems. We are all dependent on each other, the internet, satellites and much faster communications with each other has made the world a much smaller place since the 40's and 50's. We are becoming one big family and as such we must do our part to keep the world moving forward. We cannot just close the door and ignore what is going on around us.
We need to get some pppatriotism and some common decency back in our lives. We cannot even trust the police anymore. We are no longer sure if they are our friend or our enemy because we allow them to treat us like we are under their authority without limitations. They are not trained to do their jobs the right way and instead of protecting and serving the public, they are feared like the Gestapo was in Europe during the war years.

As far as the economy, we are not going through anything that we haven't gone through before; the only thing that has changed are the characters. we must be diligent in our observance of what other countries are doing and what effects it will have on us as a nation. To do this, we must depend on our elected officials to make sound judgements and from what we are seeing now, our confidence that they will do that is less than ever because of the quality and morality of those officials and how they have presented themselves so far since being elected. The Republican party is in a condition never before seen in our history; complete disarray and tainted with people who are actually mentally unstable that make outrageous comments and accusations that have absolutely no truth or merit to them. I don't see what the big fuss is all about.
